On September 25, Ankur Adivasi Trust enthusiastically celebrated the martyrdom day of tribal hero Nagya Mahadu Katkari, who fought in the glorious and valiant battle of September 25, 1930. A grand rally of tribal brothers and sisters was organized from Raigad Bazaar in Pen, passing through Shivaji Chowk and ending at the Mahatma Gandhi Library. There, the dignitaries paid homage to Nagya Mahadu Katkari’s portrait, followed by speeches. Afterward, tribal women performed a splendid cultural program showcasing their traditional tribal dance. Approximately 800 tribal men and women attended the event. The Rotary Club of Pen provided water, sherbet, and snacks to all attendees and distributed gifts to the 100 women who participated in the dance. In the Chirner Jungle Satyagraha, Nagya Mahadu Katkari played a significant role in the fight for the nation’s freedom. On September 25, eight brave heroes from the Chirner area in Uran Taluka risked their lives, fighting against the oppressive British rule. Nagya Katkari’s leadership was crucial, and he fiercely challenged the British authorities. Rotary Club of Pen President Sanyogita Temghare expressed her joy and pride in being part of the event.
